[SOLVED]: WordPress Menu Items Not Showing Up

Recently, I was commissioned to install and customize a WordPress theme by a customer. The customer had bought the theme from Themeforest.net (great place to buy premium WP themes, by the way) and needed it customized for his web design company.

The installation process was smooth, like is expected. However, when it was time to customize the theme, there was some problem with the menu. I had already imported the dummy data provided together with the theme. However, when I wanted to edit the menu, I couldn’t.

I could see the menu from the admin backend but I could not select any of them. Moreover, the menu items were not showing up! Check the image below:

The menus could be selected but the pages were not getting added to the menu.

Solution: WordPress Menu Items Not Showing Up

Like is the case with many WordPress theme problems, I immediately suspected there were some plugin conflicts that were causing the error. To solve the error, I disabled all plugins and them started activating them one by one as I tried to add items to the menu.

It turns out that one plugin that came bundled with the theme was causing the problem of menus not showing up when logged in the admin backend. The plugin was Motive Events. I simply disabled it and I the menu items started showing again.

If you have such a problem when customizing your WordPress theme, check whether there is a conflict with some of the plugins that may have been bundled with the theme. You will have to disable the plugins and start enabling them one by one as you check whether the problem has been solved.
